Struve Geodetic Arc

Struve Geodetic Arc, or Meridianstøtten, is the first technical and scientific object to be added to the Unesco World Heritage List. This chain of survey tri-angulations stretches over 2,820km from Hammerfest to the Black Sea. The scientist Friedrich Georg Wilhelm von Struve established the chain to figure out the exact size and shape of the earth.

The Royal and Ancient Polar Bear Society

The polar bear is Hammerfest’s town mascot and is represented on the municipal coat of arms. Isbjörnklubben is a small club and exhibition center in the heart of the city where if you become a member you receive a polar bear pin and a diploma. The society has more than 250,000 members from around the world, so why not join in the fun?

Sot Bar & Burger

Sometimes the only thing that will hit the spot is a burger – and this is absolutely my favorite burger joint in town. The restaurant is located next to a bowling alley and it’s also near the Polar Bear Society, so maybe this is the perfect place to grab a bite after you become a member!
